What is your name, tell us a little about yourself.
Deia Tucker I am a mom of 3 beautiful black girls whom I love dearly. I am the Founder of Deias About Business. I help advise and consult small businesses and entrepreneurs. I love building relationships with individuals who are looking to grow to reach their full potential.
What were some positives and negatives that you remember growing up as
a young black girl ?
Positives growing up as a young black girl would be my family. I was surrounded by strong black women who fed into me that I was strong, beautiful and that I could achieve anything If I set my mind to it.
What's one thing you know now that you wish you would have known
when you were younger?
Self care, I've learned over the years a lot of the emotional battles we face as adults come from wounds we could have healed long before, if we only knew how to implement self care for ourselves. It wasn't taught to me, the only thing that was close were words saying, "You are strong and beautiful." I needed more than just those words. I needed action. Now that I am an adult and I know self care, I know how to recharge myself.
How do you think society and our community views black girls and why?
I believe our society have a negative outlook on black girls. I mean black people in general, but for our black girls it's a label that is stamped of not being good enough or too sassy when having to speak up for themselves. Our own community affects this more so because we are not supporting one another and educating our girls on the right fundamentals to avoid this stigma. We need to love, educate and support one another.
