Dear Younger Me Series: Brittney

Updated: Mar 23, 2022

What is your name and tell us a little about yourself. My name is Brittney Nicole Broadwater. I am a lover of God, educator, author, podcaster. I enjoy teaching, meeting new people and bringing joy to the lives of others.

What challenges or difficulties did you have growing up as a young girl? What changes or differences have you noticed now about life and society, compared to when you were younger? Coming up, I had issues with insecurities. I never saw in myself what others saw in me. I was always the top of my class, excelling in academics but not quite understanding just who I was! Now, in my adulthood, my perspective is different. I am learning to see myself how God sees me and loving myself and others the way God would have me to do. I don’t get it right all of the time, but He is teaching me day by day.

How have your experiences from your childhood shaped who you are today? I can look back now at times I didn’t love myself the way I needed to coming up. I attached my worth to performance and what I could do for others. This led me into some sub-par relationships and situations. The many situations I’ve allowed myself to enter have all taught me something valuable about becoming as well as unbecoming. My childhood trickled into my adulthood and has definitely shaped who I am today.

If you could tell your younger self one thing starting off with the statement Dear Younger Me, what would you say? Dear Younger Me, Love yourself enough to never settle for anything. You are beautiful, intelligent, gifted and strong. Even on days you don’t feel you meet the standard, don’t get stuck there. You are gifted and loved. You are worthy. You are the apple of God’s eye. Live like it. Decide like it. Walk and talk like it.
